Description

00 Wines’ 2024 EGW Special Edition — barrel-selected Willamette Valley Chardonnay, twelve months in all-new French oak, six in steel.

Taste
Built for texture: foot-crushed Chardonnay, a night on its skins and a long press for phenolic grip, framed by new oak and 18 months on the lees.

Region
From the Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA. The Hermann family founded 00 Wines in Carlton in 2015, betting that Chardonnay is the region’s future. The house owns no vineyards and says all its growers farm biodynamically or organically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does EGW stand for?
A: Extra Good White — the house’s step above its VGW, or Very Good White. 00 Wines has described the EGW as having extra depth and extra structure. The 2024 label adds the words Special Edition.

Q: What is the Black Chardonnay method?
A: It is how 00 Wines makes its Oregon Chardonnay: grapes are foot-crushed, left on their skins overnight, then pressed slowly to draw out phenolics for texture. The juice then goes straight to barrel.

Q: How is it different from the 00 Wines VGW?
A: The VGW is the house’s flagship Willamette Valley blend, drawn in 2024 from five vineyards. The EGW is a barrel selection, its twelve months in barrel all in new French oak.
